Art Direction Rebranding  &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; Established in 1991, the Film Festival Cologne (formerly Cologne Conference) is considered one of the leading showcases of the latest extraordinary productions in film and television.&#38;nbsp;Its annual program is comprised of visually&#38;nbsp;outstanding productions, dramatic and documentary films, shorts, panel discussions, and lectures.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; The challenge was one of continuity vs. renewal: an identity rooted in its founding organisation’s visual legacy, yet needing to feel relevant and flexible for decades ahead — not a redesign from scratch, but a careful evolution that preserved cultural authority while finding a distinctly new visual language. To emphasize its interdisciplinary schedule and the spirit of community the Cologne Conference was renamed to Film Festival Cologne.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; An existing element — the red circle — was transformed into something loaded with meaning: a recording dot, universally recognised as the symbol of capturing moving image. This turned a decorative shape into a conceptual anchor, connecting film and television within a single, self-evident mark. The color system was revisited with the same logic — every element retained for a reason, updated to carry the identity forward.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; GT Cinetype was chosen not purely for aesthetics but for its media-agnostic sharpness: no curves, exceptional crispness across both print and screen — a typeface that performs as well on a poster as in motion.

A system with built-in variation, so the identity stays recognisable without becoming static.&#38;nbsp;

Whybrand × V-BANK [2024–2026]
Creative Direction &#38;nbsp;Development, Conception, Implementation and Documentation of the V-Bank Art Collection &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; When V-Bank relocated to new Munich premises, the move was treated as more than a logistical transition — it became an opportunity to articulate the bank’s identity through art. A collection themed around Innovation and Trade was curated and acquired: 155 artworks by 19 artists, installed across approximately 2,000 m² of public and office space.

A dedicated photo shoot, bespoke artwork labels, a custom brochure, and a microsite translated the physical experience into a lasting documentation — one built to grow alongside the collection.

Art Direction &#38;nbsp;Design system refresh focused on clarity and operational handover — making the brand ready for independent, in-house application&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Hauser &#38;amp; Wirth had grown into a global enterprise before its visual identity had a chance to keep up. Founded in 1992 by Manuela and Iwan Wirth and Ursula Hauser, the gallery had expanded from its origins to spaces in London, Somerset, New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and St. Moritz — each location accumulating its own visual logic along the way. Without a shared design strategy or guidelines, consistency had quietly eroded across print, digital, and every language and cultural context the brand now operated in.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The task was to change that — and to do so in a way that would last. Rather than producing another round of agency output, the goal was to build something the organisation could own: a coherent visual identity with clear principles, robust enough to travel across geographies and media, and structured to be managed in-house. Design, branding, and communications — brought under one roof, on the client side.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; New Transport replaces Transport D — the typeface originally engineered in the 1960s for British motorway signage. The switch wasn’t cosmetic. With print and webfont availability built in from the start, New Transport secured a consistent typographic presence across every medium the brand touched, with full support for extended Latin and Eastern European character sets. For a gallery operating across six countries and multiple languages, that kind of typographic infrastructure isn’t a detail — it’s a precondition for coherence.&#38;nbsp;

Opening reception invites, save-the-dates, dinner invites, posters, wall signage — all resolved within the same visual logic, regardless of location or artist. The challenge at this scale isn’t design — it’s structure. Templates, clear decisions made upstream, and a system flexible enough to absorb individual exhibition identities without losing coherence.

The digital and print versions were developed in parallel, maintaining visual coherence across formats rather than treating one as an adaptation of the other.

Colour, applied with deliberate boldness, marked the occasion as exceptional: a new space, a significant artist, a moment worth announcing&#38;nbsp; —  setting the tone for the location from day one.

&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Finding the one idea that makes Berlin’s complexity legible — and building a system around it: Berlin Global was the centrepiece opening exhibition of the Humboldt Forum — a large-scale, immersive exploration of the relationships between Berlin and the world. The central design idea followed directly from that premise: Berlin as a city that radiates. Its influence, its contradictions, its energy — all emanating outward. This became the key visual: a glow emanating outward — an expansive visual system applied consistently across every touchpoint.

A system that flexes across subjects — each poster carrying its own theme and image — while remaining unmistakably part of the same visual family. Blue-toned photography creates a consistent atmospheric register, anchored by strong typographic titles that command the format.

Art Direction &#38;nbsp;Brand Design&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The German Federal Cultural Foundation promotes art and culture within the scope of federal competence. One of its main priorities is to support innovative programmes and projects on an inter­national level. The Foundation also invests in projects which develop new methods of fostering cultural heritage and tap into the cultural and artistic potential of knowledge required for addressing social issues.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Within the first year of working with the German Federal Cultural Foundation the core identity was redefined and streamlined by reducing and emphasizing the key corporate elements: logo, colour, typography and supporting visual elements.

These programmes were realigned with the foundations corporate identity aswell as being provided with their distinct illustrative, (photo)graphic or typographic key-visual.


&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; 360° — Fund for New City Cultures wishesto encourage institutions in the areas of the fine and performing arts, as well&#38;nbsp;as cross-genre institutions to actively integrate the controversial, but promising&#38;nbsp;issues of immigration and cultural diversity, and thereby reduce infra­struc­tural&#38;nbsp; exclusion in the cultural sector. &#38;nbsp;

At the same time, it encourages them to creatively and critically examine digital culture and develop it further in a community-oriented manner.

BOROS × Forum der Völker in Werl [2021]
Art Direction Rebranding &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; Giving an institution in transition a visual identity strong enough to carry a new beginning — and a name worth standing behind. The Forum der Völker in Werl — home to one of Germany’s most significant ethnological collections, and the largest in Westphalia — had been closed since 2019, its future uncertain. The rebranding was part of a broader repositioning: a new name, a new institutional framework, and a new identity that could carry the shift away from a colonial-era missionary framing toward a contemporary, dialogic cultural institution.

The format is bisected — split into two equal halves — creating a system that speaks directly to the museum’s core idea: the encounter between worlds, the meeting of cultures, the space between self and other. Symmetry as dialogue. A form that is inherently relational.

Art Direction Pitch / Exhibition Design &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; Beethoven’s music doesn’t sit still — it builds, retreats, surges, and dissolves. For the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien's exhibition marking his 250th birthday, that dynamic became the design logic. A generative system was developed, rooted in the principle: the pianissimo-to-fortissimo range as a visual variable. Dots — expanding and contracting in size and density — serve as the key visual element, translating the score’s intensity into form. The result is a flexible identity that behaves like the music it references: never static, always in motion.

Art Direction &#38;nbsp;Brand Design &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp; Five independent institutions, one foundation. The Stiftung Oper in Berlin — bringing together Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Staatsballett Berlin, and Stage Services Company — exists to protect what each house represents while making the case for all of them together. The campaign made that case through the city’s own language. A typographic series, bold and direct.

Operas, ballets, performances, productions, singers, dancers, musicians — the full scale of what the foundation operates every season, set large and placed at the centre of the visual system. Landing pages, print ads, campaign materials all built around the same logic. The foundation’s case, made in figures.

Art Direction &#38;nbsp;Brand Design &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp; The Dresden Music Festival is an annual music festival which takes place in Dresden, Germany in May and June. Although classical music, including contemporary classical music, forms the core of its performances, world music, jazz, and dance are also presented. One of its hallmarks is the choice of repertoire, which is built on a specific theme, changing each festival season.
